Mighty is a shy boy but still has a lot of puppy characteristics.  He has been in 2 homes and has made it clear that he really doesn't want to be a sled dog in a team.  He is sweet and approachable and very calm.  He would make someone a great hiking friend and would love to curl up by the fire in the winter.

Ester is just a baby.  She is inside at the shelter just looking for a loving home.  She is a petite girl with a gentle and calm demeanor.  She loves children and would love a household where she can possibly grow up to be a child's skijor pal.

Sissy and Sassy were found on Bradway Road.  Hopefully their owner will come and claim them.  They are just puppies and are shy but very sweet.  They really want to be loved but are reserved.  Sassy is more outgoing but takes a lot of her cues from her sister.  If they aren't claimed these two girls would probably grow up to be great pets and skijoring dogs. 

These girls were moved inside and are staying together for right now.  They are sweet and curious.  I love these pups.  They remind me of a little pointer mix that I got at the shelter 5 years ago (Blackberry) who ended up being one of the fastest dogs in my yard.  These pointer mixes are people dogs and these 2 girls would love to come home with you and learn to skijor and go hiking.

January 29, 2010  We ran Kaya in a 10 dog team.  This petite girl is CRAZY.  She LOVES to run and pull.....but she wants to run all out and not stop...she chewed 2 necklines and is a wild jumping girl when stopped....over and under the dog beside her....pull on the line...chew the neckline... bang the harness.  Wow, what energy!!  She is young and small and would add good speed to a faster team.  She loves people and has a great personality.  She was found running in the Salcha area for 2 weeks and was terribly thin.  She is looking pretty good now.

January 29, 2010  Sally is a strong girl with great muscles and good weight.  She liked to go and has good speed.  She is a friendly girl that liked everyone, both people and dogs.  She would do good in a rec team where the demand isn't great to go super long distances.

Update March 6th 2010  Brooks is in private shelter foster care.  She has already been running in her foster home team and is doing great.  She is still very shy and reserved but should blossom in her new foster home.

January 29, 2010.  We ran Brooks in a 10 dog team.  She is VERY shy and quite upset about being at the shelter.  She is in full blown heat too, so made the run interesting although for having a 10 dog team, not one dog was growley or aggressive.  She is a sweet girl with gentle eyes that with the right care and love she would come around quickly.  She likes to run but doesn't want to be a distance dog.  Shorter trips, maybe into the White Mountains, would be right up her alley.  She is thin so needs some good nutrition.  Everyone likes this girl.

Update January 29, 2010  We ran Heinekin in a 10 dog team.  He is a driven strong boy but sure likes to trot.  He doesn't have top end speed but he makes up for it in power.  He is very friendly and would make a great pet/rec dog and might like to skijor.  We tried him in lead but knowing that a female was behind him in full blown heat didn't help him stay up front.  An all around super nice dog.

This friendly large boy is a pointer mix.  He doesn't have his dew claws.  He probably came from a sprint kennel where they didn't think he was fast enough.  We will get him out to run soon.  He looks like he would have good speed and is very strong.  He is very friendly, yet not hyper.  He is on house D.

UPDATE January 29, 2010.  We call this guy Abner.  He ran in a 10 dog team today and did great.  He started off a little "funny" seeming not to really know what he was doing...but he soon kicked in and worked hard.  He has good speed.  Although a little shy, he warms up quickly.  I really like this boy.  Not a mean bone in his body.   He is young and around 45-50 pounds.

This handsome young boy is a stray.  If you lost him he is on house A at the shelter.  If no one claims him he will be available in 3 days.

He has no dew claws.  A traditional looking husky.  Probably around 45 pounds.  This boy is sweet.  I liked him right off.  He can jump a 5 foot fence but comes when you call him although he is a tad bit shy.  We will try and run him soon.

Minnie is a Second Chance League dog that has been in a couple of different homes.  She was in a distance kennel first at the age of 2 years before that person decided not to run dogs much.  So Minnie was given to a sprint musher where she has been for the last couple of years.  But Minnie really doesn't want to be a sprint dog.  What Minnie would really love is to be a house dog with mushing and skijoring privileges.

She runs lead and knows Gee and Haw.  She has a beautiful gait and a nice trot.  She is housebroken and when she was first brought into the shelter she knew things like "sit" "shake" "down".  She loves to ride in a car and is a great passenger.  Minnie can be shy and a bit fearful of new situations but if you gain her trust and love she will never let you down.  She is affectionate and loving.  She can be insecure around other dogs but that can be worked through with patience and letting her know that bad things aren't going to happen to her.

She has a gorgeous white coat and large brown eyes.  She is 5 years old and 40 pounds.  She is healthy and just waiting for her right place to come along.

UPDATE  August 21.  Minnie is in foster care.  You can ask about her at the front desk at the shelter.

Minnie is a larger female with a very sweet personality.  She is shy at the shelter and tends to go into her house if anyone new comes out.  Her coat is shedding but it feels like velvet.  This bigger, older girl would probably make a great pet.  I like her a lot.  She just has a gentleness about her that I am drawn to.  She needs to gain a few pounds and shed out her thick coat.  Minnie is on house F.

Update August 11.  We ran Minnie in an 8 dog team today.  She did well.  She is a hard working dog that loved to go.  She is very mannerly in the team.  Did her job and ignored what was going on around her.  She would make a great addition to a rec team that wants age and experience.
